It is our way of welcoming you to engage our brave and saft space which is designed by the compassion of BIPOC Deaf (BIPOCD\*) communities. #### Cascadia Deaf Nation (CDN) emerged out of the responsive understanding that we are facing imminent cultural, social , and economic crises that are fueling inequities and injustices to repeat itself in cycles. The harmful reproduction of systems of oppression are that symptoms of the collapse on many fronts whether it is healthcare system or education system, etc. It is time to address the profound impact of cultural-linguistic injustice and social injustice has on everyone within BIPOCD\* communities in the Cascadia bioregion (located in British Columbia, Washington state, and Oregon). #### CDN is grounded in its stewardship accountability to empower the processes of transforming the meaning of solidarity through the embodied foundations of mindfulness and transformative justice as a capacity building social business as well as a social cooperative. CDN is making the first steps in changing the community care narratives while rebuilding human connection through transformative change-centric from cultural-linguistic lens. ## Existential Truth & Reconciliation Process in Action Cascadia Deaf Nation is a vibrant **capacity building** social business committed to promoting community wellness within BIPOC Deaf communities. What makes us cultural humble in our culture of accountability. It was in 2020 that CDN developed the emergent concept of communication equity, however, putting it into action took a pause for a number of reasons. By reflecting on ourselves and collectively throughout 2022, we examined the meaning of change. Our vision for 2023 was to model the change through our actions, which included shared accountability and collective dignity. Our role as the model of change has given us insight into the social issues that are impacting the communities that we deeply care about from both a cultural and socioeconomic perspective. For us, equity and transformative justice are important. Language deprivation in Deaf communities is a significant community health issue due to its severe effects on individuals' ability to engage with current knowledge systems and mainstream information. Considering our commitment to community wellness, it is essential to address the language deprivation that affects BIPOC Deaf communities specifically. Our adult literacy program, specifically designed for a sign language environment, seeks to vitalize Deaf adults—particularly those with lived BIPOC experience—in navigating and overcoming challenges in critical areas such as social mobility, employment opportunities, and personal development. Our adult literacy classes are offered quarterly (every 3 months) until the students feel confident in taking professional exams or academic exams (ex: GED) The classes can be paid in installment or paid in full or can be paid by a sponsor (DVR, charity organizations, etc.) College preparatory classes prepare students who identify as Deaf, Hard of hearing, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled and Late deafened individuals with essential skills for academic success in higher education. They improve study skills, organization, time management, and research methods. Additionally, these classes cover subject areas like mathematics, science, and English literature, aligning closely with collegiate standards. Fast track classes last 12 weeks while standard track classes take 6 months. The classes can be paid in installment or paid in full or can be paid by a sponsor (DVR, charity organizations, etc.) It is a self cultivation retreat where an individual spends time focusing on discovering own skills or strengthen skills in a sign language centered environment. It is also an opportunity for the individual to become aware of own bias and more. The retreat lasts up to two or three weeks depending on case by case basis. The stay at the retreat can be paid in installment or paid in full or can be paid by a sponsor (DVR, charity organizations, etc.) American Sign Language (ASL) classes are conducted within community environments, fostering connections and enhancing understanding among participants.. It also extends its services to broader communities in the beautiful and unceded Coast Salish territories within lush Cascadia bioregion. Our mission is to establish an all-embracing ecosystemic network comprised of committed community stewards who provide individually designed practical and emotional support to individuals experiencing minimal community substructure. Aftercare Support is a whole person-centered support service offered by Cascadia Deaf Nation (CDN) with the primary goal of enhancing the quality of life for and with BIPOC Deaf community members (including D/deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of hearing, and Late deafened individuals). We aim to address the gaps that have left these individuals feeling underserved and guide them to meet their needs. Through a proactive approach rooted in mindfulness, stewardship, and transformative justice, our Aftercare Support service seeks to support and uplift these community members on their lifelong journey toward an improved quality of life. This is the moment where an individual has not received supportive service during life transitional period. This is the time where an individual starts to receive or is receiving not received supportive service during life transitional period. Ex: DVR support, DV advocacy, re-entry, etc. This is the mentoring or community support stage where an individual receives the support in navigating opportunity to strengthen own self-advocacy or become confident in making healthy decisions to improve own quality of life. This is where we come into the picture with our resource network. The person is not alone in preparing for own death or for a family's member's death Sustain support during medical emergency and support with maintaining own health at its optimal best. Community centered mutual aid covering unexpected expenses during situational crises Support in providing sustainable housing resources including housing cooperative opportunities Whole person centered mentoring to support with building health self-advocacy & self-activism while encouraging inner work in both personal and professional areas. Support with facilitating critical information and guiding the person to know their human rights on a deeper level. At our Aftercare Support service, we are committed to creating a thriving community founded on healed human connections, overall well-being, access to nutritious foods, secured housing, and a sense of purpose. While financial resources are essential for sustaining a healthy community, we understand that there are other critical factors contributing to its ability to thrive equitably. Our main focus is on promoting holistic well-being and fostering a strong sense of belonging within our community. Through our understanding of collective power, knowledge sharing intends to advance the spread and strengthening of fair representational information and resources. This enables individuals to improve their practical and creative thinking abilities while also reaping the benefits of Aftercare Support services.
