LANGUAGE DEPRIVATION

Language deprivation in Deaf communities is a significant community health issue due to its severe effects on individuals' ability to engage with current knowledge systems and mainstream information.

KEY IMPACT

Considering our commitment to community wellness, it is essential to address the language deprivation that affects BIPOC Deaf communities specifically.

OUR RESPONSE

Our adult literacy program, specifically designed for a sign language environment, seeks to vitalize Deaf adults—particularly those with lived BIPOC experience—in navigating and overcoming challenges in critical areas such as social mobility, employment opportunities, and personal development.

HOW LONG?

Our adult literacy classes are offered quarterly (every 3 months) until the students feel confident in taking professional exams or academic exams (ex: GED)
